Karate Program: Shorin Ryu is a Traditional Okinawan style that leads our students from white belt to Black belt. Directed towards students from 9 and up it is a serious class that builds character, self-discipline, self-control, confidence, and emotional strength. In addition to psychological advantages it builds physical strength, flexibility, agility, vigor, balance, speed and co-ordination. This class also has a special emphasis on self defense for the street, and incorporates elements of Kali Escrima, Silat, and Krav Maga. Although this is a serious class it is a lot of fun!

Little Tigers Program

The Little Tiger program introduces children ages 4 years through 6 years to the traditional martial art of Shorin-Ryu in a safe and nurturing setting. Children are encouraged to have fun while improving concentration and coordination. We provide a positive classroom environment for children to develop the social skills of cooperation and respect while learning the mental and physical elements of Shorin-Ryu karate.

Students are taught the skill building curriculum of Shorin-Ryu karate with a game-based teaching methodology which is suited to the developmental needs of this young age group, and inspires them to enjoy the challenges of learning.

he Five Attributes (ways to earn their stripes):

  • Focus- eyes follow the teacher, three ways of paying attention, not being distracted by others, able to sit when required.
  • Participation-willing to take on challenges, not afraid of trying something new, not giving up after failure, responding to questions, showing effort.
  • Shorin-Ryu Basics-understands the fundamentals of punching, kicking, blocking, stepping, and stances.
  • Respect-not roughhousing, says yes sir/ma’am, understands the term “polite”, shares and waits for a turn.
  • Awareness-pays attention, knows when to sit and be patient, attentive to surroundings, can play or practice safely around other children.

Physical Qualities: Speed, strength, flexibility, agility, and coordination.

Mental Qualities: Sharing, taking turns, patience, focus, teamwork, confidence, and leadership skills.

Little Tigers develop physically, emotionally and intellectually at vastly different rates. For example, a four year old may enter our program and actually be more advanced than a five year old who has been in the program for over a year.
